About this book

Zahlan's detailed study examines recent and current performance of Arab countries and their organizations in scientific research in relation to their socio-economic development. It shows that the Arab countries are severely handicapped by a political economy dominated by technological dependence, corruption, and limited research collaboration.

Reviews

"Zahlan notes the growing science and technology capacities in the Arab region but regrets the almost universal lack of political capacity to take advantage of this rich potential. This book should be required reading for awakened publics determined to shake off not only political but also technological dependence." - Clement M. Henry, chair, Political Science Department, American University in Cairo
